Having friends live in Denistone, I agree its a nice, sleepy suburb, but Federation houses in Denistone? Almost none. Mostly post Federation bungalows (though nice). North Shore? It’s on the northern line, not the north shore line, which is how these regions acquired their names. Convenient? Trains rarely stop there.
Suitable for retirees? Many older people leaving for smaller, maintenance free houses/apartments without big gardens, making Denistone good for young families to move in to take advantage of established, solid old homes.

We’ve live in Denistone for a year now and love it. You can get the train to the city in 30 minutes (trains come every 16 minutes) or it’s two stops to Epping to get on the metro. It’s a walk or short drive to the diverse dining options at West Ryde and Eastwood and also easy drive to Top Ryde and Macquarie center for shopping. The suburb is very peaceful and full of birds and leafy parks and tracks. Good schools nearby and the new development of Ryde hospital mean you have everything you need.
