I’ve lived in Canterbury for almost 9 years and love it. Everything you said is true, on the surface it looks bit run down with no real pressure on the council to lift the suburb up to its full potential. The paths, parks and Cooks River can do with a full revamp. But the suburb has everything going for it, good public transport options (including the Metro project), decent proximity to CBD. Also petrol prices are among the cheapest in Sydney and nearby Campsie has cheap and better produce than Colesworth

      Hi Nick,

Agreed, it’s one of the more underrated suburbs that if it juuuust had a little bit more love would make it one of the best value this close to the city. We listed it in our “best Sydney suburbs for first home buyers” for those after an apartment for basically all of the benefits you’ve listed :)

      Cheers

We moved to Canterbury after being priced out of Dulwich Hill and we love it. Cafe’s and restaraunts are great. And the Cooks River walk and many parks are awesome for dog owners. The metro is also coming in on schedule. We’ve noticed lots of first home owners like us moving into the area and we’re really excited to watch Canterbury continue to diversify. Theres a huge demand from locals for a new pub or bar however, or for the current Canterbury Hotel to become a better fit for the Rapidly changing area.
